In our previous blog we gave you our top ten cafes in the local area – this time its the turn of restaurants or takeaways. Whether you’re looking for fine dining or fish and chips (or anything in between), Marchmont has it! In this blog, we’ve equipped you with our choice of top 10 restaurants and takeaways in the local area. We hope you enjoy trying them out! Opening in October 2015 on Roseneath Street, The Rabbit Hole is a neighbourhood restaurant specialising in French cuisine. It prides itself on offering a relaxed dining experience with an ever changing menu to reflect the seasons but still based around firm favourites with both locals and visitors alike. Everything is freshly prepared on the premises, sourced locally from shops in and around Marchmont. It’s open for lunch and dinner 5 days a week.
Located on Marchmont Road, this takeaway is ideal for guests staying at either Gladstone or Roseneath apartments. It offers everything from traditional fish and chips, through to pizzas, with special boxes available to be made up for children. Vegatarians and vegan customers are also well catered for with a wide selection of options available. An order can be placed online and then collected from the shop to eat back at your apartment.
Another local takeaway on Marchmont Road, specialising in Indian cuisine. They offer a wide, varied menu featuring classics such as Balti and Tandoori dishes as well as vegetarian options. An ideal location for both Roseneath and Gladstone, orders can be made online and then collected from the premises.
A takeaway on Warrender Park Road, this time specialising in Italian food. It offers the usual range of pasta and pizza dishes as well as burgers, steaks and chicken. This one is particularly handy if you are staying at Roseneath Apartment as it is only a couple of minutes walk away. You can order online and then go and collect.
Saiko Kitchen is a pan Asian street food eatery located on Roseneath Street, just around the corner from Roseneath Apartment and only a few minutes from Gladstone Apartment. It offers relaxed dining with the option to either sit in in or take away. Much of the menu is influenced by Vietnamese style cooking and it prides itself on providing an authentic dining experience.
Located, just over the Meadows and Bruntsfield Links, on Viewforth this is an ideal spot to grab lunch or dinner. They work with local and artisan suppliers and 99% of the menu is gluten free, and offer a good range of dishes for both lunch and dinner, including plates for share. It’s a handy stop off point if you’ve been out for a stroll around the Meadows or shopping in nearby Bruntsfield before heading back to your apartment. The King’s Theatre is also only a 15 minute walk away.
Another lovely restaurant to head to if you’ve tickets booked for the theatre, located on Barclay Place its only a few minutes walk from The King’s Theatre and just over the Meadows from our apartments. It’s an intimate brasserie which serves weekly changing set menus which also change with the seasons. There’s also the option of private dining and sections can be reserved for private functions so ideal for that special occasion. There’s also an extensive wine menu.
More a pub than a restaurant but as they do bar food then we thought they should be included. Located on Marchmont Crescent its ideally located for both apartments. They serve lunch and dinner in a relaxed environment, as well as drinks and coffees all day so a great place to relax after a days sightseeing, studying or working. They often having regular wine tasting nights too so if you’re staying at the apartments for a while it could be a good way of meeting some of the locals.
Located on Marchmont Road, O’Kitchen specialises in authentic Korean food. There’s the option to sit-in or take away, making it ideal for self catering guests. It’s open for either lunch or dinner and its proximity to both flats makes it an ideal place to visit after a days sightseeing if you don’t fancy going into town. The takeaway option also means you can choose to eat back in the comfort of your apartment.
This Turkish restaurant is located on West Preston Street, only a short walk from our Gladstone Apartment and the Meadows. It prides itself in providing authentic dishes that are good value for money. They’re open for either lunch or dinner and also offer a great selection of teas and Turkish coffee to finish off your meal.
