What’s happening this month
Hopefully the good weather is just around the corner which is a great chance to get out and about. With April now upon us we thought we’d bring you our guide to what’s happening in the Scottish capital this month.
Taking place between 6 and 21 April, the world’s oldest science festival returns to Edinburgh. The theme this year is Frontiers. The Science Festival presents over 200 events for families and adults over the course of two weeks. The programme includes everything from fun family days out to new exhibitions, shows and performances, discussions with pioneering thinkers and some very special events, ideal for locals and visitors alike. Families are particularly well catered for with hands-on science events at the City Art Centre and world class theatre at Summerhall (only a 5 minute walk away from Gladstone Apartment).
The Easter Saturday Raceday returns in 2019 to Musselburgh Racecourse for its third year! Taking place on Easter Saturday (20 April), this event is proving an ideal destination for couples, friends and groups looking for an Easter get together with a difference. On top of the racing there will be music, entertainment, food, and drinks courtesy of Edinburgh Gin Tipple Trailer. Families are looked after too with a dedicated kids zone featuring the return of the hugely popular Easter Bunny, free game stalls, free fairground rides for all ages and free face painting. The best bit is kids under 17 are free when accompanied by an adult.
Celebrate the first signs of summer with a blazing mix of fire, drumming, dance, and acrobatics on 30 April. For one special night, hundreds of otherworldly creatures will descend on Calton Hill to mark the change of the seasons. When the drums start to thunder, the May Queen awakens and leads her followers on a spectacular procession, watched by an audience of thousands against the backdrop of Edinburgh’s stunning skyline. You can find out more and buy tickets on the Beltane Fire Festival website.
