What’s on in Edinburgh in June
Our guide to what’s happening in Edinburgh this June
We can’t believe that it’s June already – where has the year gone? With the weather hopefully getting a bit warmer, June is a great month to be in Edinburgh. Highlights for the month include the Edinburgh International Film Festival and the Royal Highland Show. Meanwhile, the Leith Festival is a great opportunity to celebrate one of the city’s most unique neighbourhoods. Take a look at our guide to what’s going on the city this month.
Leith Festival
The Leith Festival takes place over 8 days from 8 June, showcasing the length and breadth of Leith’s vibrant community from its originals as a port and fishing community right up to the present day. The community and residents of Leith are at the heart of the festival (it’s organised and run by locals). There’s been a festival in Leith for over 100 years and over time it has expanded to 66 events across 37 different venues (many of which are free to attend). The festival kicks off each year with a Pageant and Gala Day. To find out more just take a look at their website.

Edinburgh Festival of Cycling
Now in its 7th year, this festival will take place from 6 – 16 June throughout Edinburgh. Despite having only been running for a few years it’s already been listed as one of Europe’s top 10 cycling festivals by Active Traveller Magazine. With events ranging from family activities to cultural events, there really is something for everyone. The festival boasts an action packed 10 day programme, featuring things like bike rides, and races alongside talks, films, exhibitions, workshops and family events. Their website is packed full of information about the festival, as well as details about the venues and the chance to buy tickets.

This international renowned festival was first established back in 1947 and aims to spotlight the most exciting and innovative new film talent both here in the UK and internationally. This year it’s running from 19 – 30 June and will showcase the best in British, European, American and World cinema. It also aims to provide a platform for new film-makers to showcase their talents. Since its beginning, the festival has grown each year and this year the festival will show around 121 new feature films (including 12 World Premieres). The Royal Highland Show
Not just for farmers, the show is a must-see for foodies and families and everyone with an interest in Scotland. As well the traditional judging and exhibition of cattle and sheep there are also exhibits from machinery displays to food stalls, competitions and music. It’s on over 4 days from 20 – 23 June and you can buy a range of tickets to suit how often you want to visit. One of the highlights is the Scottish Larder Live which is the largest food and drink event in the country, showcasing the best of Scottish produce. This is a great way of connecting the city with the country. Tickets can be bought online via their website.
